Navigating the Meal Plan
The Meal Plan page shows the current 4-week dinner cycle. Each cycle is a block of 4 weeks generated from your Notion recipe database.
- Week tabs — Switch between weeks using the tabs at the top. The current week is highlighted.
- Day cards — Each day shows the planned dinner with its name and any notes.
- Status badge — Each week has a status: Draft (just generated), Pending Review (ready for your review), or Approved (locked in, shopping list created).
Swapping Meals
Don't like the order? Drag and drop meals between days to rearrange them. On touch devices (iPad/iPhone), press and hold a meal card, then drag it to another day.
The swap is saved immediately — no need to click a save button.
Replacing a Meal
Want a completely different meal? Tap the Replace button on any meal card. A search modal appears where you can:
- Search by meal name
- Browse available meals
- Select a replacement — the swap is saved instantly
Clearing a Week
Want to start fresh? Tap the Clear Week button to remove all meal entries from a week. This is useful if you want to manually rebuild a week by replacing individual days. Only available for unapproved weeks.
Approving a Week
Once you're happy with a week's plan, tap Approve. This does two things:
- Locks the week's meal plan (no more changes)
- Automatically generates a shopping list based on the week's ingredients
You'll receive a push notification confirming the approval if notifications are enabled.
Using the Shopping List
After approving a week, navigate to the Shopping List page. Items are grouped by store category (produce, dairy, meat, etc.) for easy shopping.
- Check items off — Tap an item to mark it as purchased. Checked items move to the bottom of their category.
- Progress bar — Shows how many items you've checked off out of the total.
- Staple items excluded — Ingredients marked as "staples" in your pantry are automatically excluded from the shopping list.
- Multiple lists — If you have several approved weeks, use the tabs to switch between shopping lists.
Providing Context via Chat
The Chat page lets you leave messages that provide context for meal planning:
- "We have leftover roast chicken to use up"
- "Guests coming for dinner on Saturday"
- "Trying to eat less red meat this month"
- "Kids are on school break next week — more lunches at home"
You can optionally tag a message with a context week to indicate which week it applies to. Unprocessed messages are reviewed during weekly check-ins.
Messages show a "read" indicator once they have been processed.
